Water is a universal solvent. Our bodies contain about 75percent water. Apart from its common uses like in aiding digestion, preventing dehydration, et cetera, water has several other unusual uses and some may surprise you!.
Most people are used to the 8 by 8 rule of drinking water which states that, "an individual should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day". Although that may sound helpful but it may not be applied to everybody, seeing that most persons lifestyle vary. Those who work less and I mean those who ain't really into much physical labour and sweat less, should drink less and vice versa.
Most nutritionists and institute of medicine recommend that the adequate intake(AI) for men should be roughly 13 cups(3 litres) of total beverages a day. While for women is about 9cups(2.2 litres) of total beverages a day. Those intakes should include not only water but other fluids like tea, wine, yoghurts, fruit juice in total. So watch your lifestyle and drink as much water as you can especially alkaline ionized water and avoid dehydration.
As we all know water has so many benefits but like every other thing over usage can cause harm and so is it with water. Drinking too much water too quickly can lead to water intoxication. Surprised right! Water intoxication occurs when water dilutes the sodium level in the bloodstream and causes an imbalance of water in the brain. Also when there is too much intake of water and less usage by the body edema can occur.
Unusual benefits of drinking water includes:
1. Water can be used to cure headache. A study from researchers at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London found that headaches can be caused by water deprivation. As such patient were administered drinking water and this gave them relief.
2. Water can keep the skin soft and healthy. It moisturizes the skin and ensure proper cellular formation underneath layers of skin to give it a glowing appearance.
3. Drinking adequate amounts of water can decrease the risk of certain types of cancers, including colon cancer, bladder cancer, and breast cancer.
4. Drinking water can help you lose weight. When you replace other calorie-laden beverages in the diet with water, this can reduce your overall number of calories.
